  • ATA – Andrew Reddaway

    ATA

    Andrew Reddaway is an Energy Analyst with experience in advising households and organisations on how lower their bills and how to select the optimal solar-battery system for their needs or optimise their current system performance. Andrew designed and developed the ATA’s Sunulator program and has delivered training courses and presentations to a variety of organisations. Prior to joining the ATA, Andrew worked at the Australian Energy Market Operator where he developed the organisation’s first forecast of rooftop solar generation for the National Electricity Market. Andrew also has hands-on experience designing and installing small off-grid solar solutions.

  • ATA – Greg Walters

    Greg Walters has a thorough background in engineering and teaching across many disciplines. With his extensive knowledge and skill base, he has a holistic approach to design, problem solving and trouble-shooting, providing practical solutions. Since 2009 Greg has been involved in residential sustainability assessment and energy auditing. After personally undertaking a retrofit to his 1929 Californian bungalow (including solar PV, rain harvesting, draught proofing, double glazing, insulation improvements, vegetable gardens etc), in 2013 he was awarded the City of Whitehorse “Sustainable Household of the Year”.

  • ATA – Michael O’Connell

    Michael OConnell

    Michael O’Connell is an Alternative Technology Association (ATA) technical specialist with a long history in public education and presentation around sustainable living topics. Michael has over 25 years’ experience in the Telecommunications, IT, Construction and Renewable Energy industries. He is a past president of the ATA. Michael runs a design and energy management consultancy business with a focus on sustainable development, and designed and built his own house using passive solar design principles together with solar power and integrated permaculture garden.

  • ATA – Richard Keech

    Richard Keech is an experienced engineer who works as an energy consultant and has industry experience with renewable energy and energy efficiency.  He was a lead author of BZE’s Buildings Plan and is a regular contributor to ATA’s ReNew magazine on matters related to sustainable building technology.  Richard lives in Essendon with his family in their zero-carbon home.

    Michael Tanner

    Michael Tanner is a designer and horticulturalist with a passion for making sustainable gardens. With DirtSong he specialises in designing, creating and caring for gardens that leave the softest of footprints. Michael is a respected landscape design teacher and gardening presenter, guiding colleges, schools and communities towards greater understanding of the uniqueness of their soils, plants and landscapes.

    Michael understands the abiding wellbeing that edible, organic and naturally sustainable gardens bring to our lives. He sees these gardens as simply beautiful.

    “There’s a couple of things I really love; creating beautiful landscapes and cooking delicious food. Designing sustainable gardens is the perfect way for me to spend more time doing both.”

    Do it on the Roof is a specialist green roof and wall company. Our mission is to bring nature back to cities by creating beautiful, wild and ecologically rich green roofs and gardens.

    John Hassall leads the operations team for Do it on the Roof and has plenty of experience designing, planting and maintaining green roofs and walls, but can answer all of your garden design questions. John’s background in waste management sparked his interest in green roofs and walls because they typify modern society’s ability to overlook or waste valuable spaces. He has experience in both building and landscape management and the combination provides him with knowledge that is crucial for designing and managing green roofs and walls whose beauty lasts. John enjoys discussing all things environmental sustainability, particularly biodiversity, waste reduction, and urban agriculture. He enjoys sharing his own gardening experiences, both on the ground and on the roof.

    Noel Anthony is part of the team at EnviroGroup based in Northcote.  He has over 5 years experience in solar and energy efficiency across Australia and New Zealand. EnviroGroup has been in business for 13 years and has installed over seven thousand residential and commercial solar power and battery systems over that time.

    EnviroGroup specialises in the installation of systems such as solar power, heat pump hot water, heating /cooling, LED lighting and cutting edge technologies including the Tesla Powerwall and Reposit.  With the EnviroGroup team, Noel also regularly runs free seminars and events for the public on ‘solar power and batteries for beginners’.

    Gaia Construction specialises in bespoke homes and renovations and is committed to providing its clients with informed and practical advice on sustainable materials and options for improving energy efficiency. Managing Director Jeremy Gates has a long work history in the European market and has been a registered building practitioner in Victoria since 2012. He is a member of the Master Builders Association Victoria and is a Green Living Builder. Combining in-depth knowledge of current Australian standards and practices with experience in leading edge European methods and materials now emerging in Australia, Jeremy brings a unique set of skills and perspectives to every project. Jeremy is assisted by his wife Sue, an environmental lawyer with a keen interest in sustainable building.

    GLOW Design Group specialises in energy efficient homes that are functional and beautiful. The GLOW-designed and documented “700 haus” collected good publicity and sustainability award recognition. Lead designer Tim Ellis is a registered designer with the BDAV. Good design is of utmost importance: high thermal efficiency not only helps save the environment, it saves on ongoing costs by using energy wisely.

    The Green Box Studio philosophy is to ‘create innovative and engaging buildings and homes, which are spatially and functionally efficient.’ Along with a design approach that prioritises sustainable, flexible, energy efficient, and healthy homes which provide a deeper connection to place and environment, this has lead to our services being sought by like-minded clients and many fulfilling collaborations. The co-founders of the collective, Narelle Edgar (Architect) and Justin Whitehead (Builder) each manage independent practices, but believe that close connection between Architect and Builder, and a shared commitment to this philosophy through the design and construction phases, will ensure a more successful and much loved finished project.

    We at Gruen Eco Design are passionate about sustainable design, because we believe sustainable design can and must be affordable for everyone and as a matter of course should be integrated naturally throughout the whole design process, rather than designing something and trying to make it sustainable later. We are really proud of our 9.4 star self sufficient home in Smith Gully, which was built on a restricted budget yet achieves all the sustainable and energy efficient features the clients were aiming for.

    Simone Schenkel is the designer and owner at Gruen Eco Design. Thanks to her architectural studies in Germany, an essential part of her education was based on sustainability as well as passive house design.

At Habitech, Vonne works on project design, documentation, social media and managing the delivery of Habitech’s modular building fabric and marketing

NBLA studios aim to develop all projects with underlying sustainability principals, from schmick residential developments, public space or a simple planning application.  Niree’s experience include one of Australia’s most renowned design practices, Environmental and Planning advisory committees’ to council, Management Committee to a developing Community Environmental Center in the Yarra Ranges and her own practice.  She is also a passionate gardener, mother and food producer.”

    Greg has project managed some of our amazing programs, such as the award winning Darebin Solar $aver program and he is on hand to help with any technical questions you might have.

    Greg is also an amazing cook and a proud father of three.

    Small Spaces offers a full design service taking your project from the initial consultation right through to project management, and maintenance. Our designs are one off’s, developed to cater for each individual client’s requirements and budget.
