David has a practical knowledge of building construction and design having run his own construction company in the UK for many years. Since 2003 David has studied and organized projects at Murdoch University to: improve the energy efficiency and performance of manufactured lightweight housing; to investigate practical and cost-effective ways to improve the energy consumption and thermal performance of residential and industrial buildings, including the installation of monitoring systems to achieve this and data analysis. More recently David has carried out a detailed investigation into the carbon emission resulting from the built environment, from the materials of construction to the areas in general living practice where energy is used – water use and treatment, food production, travel, electricity and gas use.
