Renew is proud to present a virtual Speed Date a Strata Sustainability Expert event in partnership with the City of Randwick, Waverley Council and Woollahra Municipal Council.

Join us for a fun and informative session where you will receive free, one-on-one advice from leading strata sustainability experts who can provide advice about making your unit and your building’s common areas more sustainable. This event is designed for apartment owners and renters living in the three Council areas as well as building managers who are seeking sustainable solutions for building common areas.

  • Alex Marks – Allume Energy

    Alex is COO of Allume Energy, a company dedicated to extending the benefits of rooftop solar to all. Allume Energy has invented the SolShare, a technology which allows one rooftop solar installation to be shared by apartments in the same building. Alex leads Allume’s public affairs and policy work. Prior to settling in Melbourne, Alex worked in natural resources management and social enterprise across Southeast Asia and Kenya. Alex holds a MSc from Oxford University in Environmental Change & Management.

  • Amanda Farmer – Your Strata Property

    Amanda Farmer helps property owners to demystify the legal complexities of apartment living. A lawyer with over 17 years’ experience in the strata and community titles sector, Amanda is the host of the Your Strata Property podcast and the founder of an online membership community for apartment owners and managers. Amanda heads up her own legal practice in Edgecliff and sits on the Council of the Australian College of Strata Lawyers. Amanda has the knowledge you need to ensure that your next sustainability improvement ticks all the necessary legal boxes for your owners corporation.

  • Andre Boerema – Sydney Water

    Andre has over 20 year’s developing, delivering and managing water efficiency programs across all sectors of the community. Cumulatively, the services he’s managed have directly engaged over 638,000 (or 40% of) Greater Sydney’s households and businesses. 

    He has extensive experience delivering cost efficient, large scale water efficiency programs across varied and complex market segments. He developed the unique Strata Waterfix service that has generated over $1.2M in water savings for strata residents in just 12 Sydney buildings, all for no up-front cost.

  • Australian Energy Foundation – Daniel Beaton

    Daniel is a project coordinator at Australian Energy Foundation (AEF) with expertise in solar, energy efficient lighting, strata decision making, NABERS rating and energy consult advice.

    Daniel works closely with a number of councils, apartment communities and committees, solar installers and strata managers to deliver solar pilots and programs.  He can help you through all stages of your solar journey from  feasibility, through to committee voting and installation support.  He can help overcome technical and decision-making barriers to getting your project off the ground, and help identify energy efficiency opportunities along the way.

  • Beth Kasumovic – Sustainable Waste Manager, Waverley Council

    Beth is the Sustainable Waste Manager at Waverley Council., the second most dense council area next to City of Sydney. She oversees sustainable waste education, policy, planning, and compliance to achieve Council’s desire to become a zero-waste community. Beth supports the Waverley community to make sound, educated decisions about waste and recycling. She has worked closely with strata managers to tackle the plethora of waste issues at apartment buildings. Her work has won many awards for Excellence in the Environment and has received national recognition.

  • Brent Clark – Wattblock

    Brent Clark is the CEO and founder of energy consultancy, Wattblock. Wattblock has assisted apartment buildings housing over 60,000 residents with solar feasibility, energy/water efficiency, NABERS ratings and electric vehicle charging reports. This includes Australia’s first solar-powered EV charging in a residential strata scheme and solar photovoltaic/hot water heat pump retrofit project. Brent specialises in breaking down the barriers to community solar and has worked in consultation with Tesla on an EV charging in strata study. 

  • Ethan Burns – Sustainability Now

    Sustainability Now is an energy & water efficiency and environmental management consultancy, specialising in strata but also able to advise on standard homes. Since 2009 we have worked with over 300 strata buildings to undertake energy and water audits or implement energy and water efficiency upgrades. Managing Director, Ethan Burns, is an Environmental Engineer with 10 years’ experience in the electricity generation, transmission & distribution and local government sectors prior to founding Sustainability Now. He can help homeowners with advice on energy efficient lighting and appliances, hot water systems, pool pumps, optimal sizing of PV systems, battery storage, energy tariffs and general water efficiency.

  • Gareth Huxham – Energy Smart Strata

    Energy Smart Strata work with executive committees and building managers to reduce common area energy usage and costs.  Gareth Huxham has been conducting energy audits and managing upgrades with strata complexes for over 10 years. 

    Gareth can help you understand the energy efficiency issues and opportunities for your building: lighting, ventilation, air conditioning, pumps, pool, lifts, and solar. And investigate issues related to the allocation of energy usage and costs in strata. For example whether common area meters are supplying non-common area or shared services.

    Gareth also conducts water audits, is a NABERS assessor for apartment buildings, and specializes in the energy market. Bring in a copy of your recent energy bill and he’ll make sure you’re not paying too much.

  • Mark Paul – The Greenwall Company

    A qualified horticulturalist, Mark was the first to successfully design and install greenwalls in Australia in pursuit of his passion to reclaim the built environment. He has combined his training as a Marine Biologist working on coral reefs and estuaries with his understanding of plant biomechanics and their simple requirement for water, light and nutrition to design greenwalls and greenroofs. His 30 year old original test greenwalls are still thriving today!

    Mark’s unique greenwalls and greenroofs have featured in a large variety of national and international media + a similar number of National + International speaking engagements.  He is a member of the Friends of The Royal Botanic Gardens, Australian Plant Society, International Bromeliad Societies, Manly Warringah Orchid Society and The Australian Institute of Horticulture and holds several national design awards.

  • Mike Roberts – UNSW

    Mike works at the School of Photovoltaics and Renewable Energy Engineering at UNSW Sydney, where he is researching different ways to integrate more solar into the Australian energy system, including demand response, home energy management, battery storage and embedded networks. He has expertise in the benefits and challenges of the different options available for installing solar PV on apartment buildings, and can advise strata owners on the questions to consider to determine the right solar solution for your building.


  • Reymi Graham – Waste Officer, Woollahra Council

    Reymi Graham is the Waste Technical & Admin Officer for Woollahra Council and has a particular passion for recycling and compliance. She assists in implementing waste management strategies and recycling education projects for schools, businesses and residents. Being out in the field allows her to identify concerns and opportunities. She works closely with residents, strata managers and cleaners of unit blocks to solve recycling/bin issues, promote recycling education and perform compliance inspections.

  • Sara Rathborne – NABERS

    Sara Rathborne is the Market Development Manager of NABERS at DPIE.
    National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) can be used to measure a building’s energy efficiency, carbon emissions, the water consumed and waste produced and compare to similar buildings. Sara can help you begin the journey of reducing your impact and contributing to a healthier environment.

    Sara has a Masters of Environmental Management at UNSW which first lead into scientific research roles within Australian Wildlife Conservancy, most notably the project leader for Australia’s largest turtle breeding program on Ningaloo Reef with the Department of Conservation.

  • Tim Washington – JET Charge

    Tim Washington is the CEO of JET Charge, Australia’s largest EV charging infrastructure provider, and the co-founder of Chargefox, the largest EV charging network in Australia.  JET Charge installed the first ever smart, apartment based EV charging system over 5 years ago, and has been pioneering EV charging ever since, achieving global recognition for its leadership.

  • Tonja Gibson – Green Strata

    Tonja is on the board of Green Strata which is focused on helping owners and occupiers of existing residential multi-unit properties improve the sustainability of their common property, their individual units/townhouses and their community of residents.

    She is a founding director of Stata Answers, providing independent advice on how owners and executive committees can make their strata schemes work better and get better value for the dollars that owners pay in levies.

    For over 5 years Tonja has been a dynamic and committed Executive Committee member in a large strata building, placing a strong emphasis on improving how the strata scheme operates with a particular passion for waste minimisation and sustainable upgrades of older apartments.
